The Day I Overcame My Fear of Heights

“Come on! Let’s go!” My aunt said. I was on the Cruise Ship stairs trembling with fear. I did not want to go down the slide! My eyes stung, but I did say that I was going to go down the slide. I was 7 at the time. My stomach was churning like butter. My brain was dancing in my head with all of these thoughts as if I should run back down the stairs or go down the slide. The more steps I took, the more tears I tried to hold back. I can almost hear my heart pounding up against my chest. I ran down the stairs to my parents ready to burst out tears. My mom said I didn’t have to go down the slide if I didn’t want to. She gave me a tissue and I rubbed my eyes and I cried into my hands. As, I watched my aunt come down the slide, she looked happy. At that moment, I smiled and I knew that it wasn’t as scary as it looked. I really wanted to do it, but it was getting dark and my mom said that I could do it the next day.                                                                                                                                       So the next day, I started walking up the stairs to the top of the slide. When I got to the top, I was still a little nervous, but I was happy that I was going to slide down the slide. I sat on the top of the slide and I was happy. I slid down the slide and my mom and dad where cheering for me! They said that my eyes twinkled and my hands were in the air showing that it was fun. That was the most fun I ever had!!! I learned something that day. I learned that when you are afraid to do something, do it anyway and it will be fun!!!

  1. Great story, Skyla! I remember that day well! You were scared, but very brave! That was a tall water slide 🙂
